License and terms
The terms and conditions for using the materials on this wiki has been chosen to make it free and easy for students to use our materials for studying and learning. Students can use the various "books" on this wiki for self-studies or as part of courses which use this wiki as course materials.
What Students may do
We have chosen a generous licensing scheme for this wiki, primarily with students in mind. Students may freely use the texts on this wiki for personal use and self-studies. Using the texts and exercises on this wiki for personal use and self-studies is free of charge, including the videos linked from this wiki.
What schools and teachers may do
All texts on this wiki are published with a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license. This means that you can use this wiki as is, or copy and modify the texts for non-commercial purposes as long as you comply with the license terms. If you include material from this wiki in your own materials for teaching, that is OK as long as you comply with the license terms. This means - among other things - clearly attributing the source of the material and also applying the same license to your own materials. Failing to comply with the license terms invalidates the license and means that you are violating our copyright. If you are unsure, you can always contact the authors with any questions regarding the use of our materials.
The Creative Commons suite of licenses were made to make sharing and re-use easy. The only thing you have to do is to follow the license and clearly state (and link) the source of the material and apply the same license as we are using on your derivatives.
Commercial use is not permitted as per the license terms. An example of commercial use, would be to use the texts on this wiki as a consultant teacher or private school.
For use of the source code from our Github repos, see the licenses in the repos to see what terms apply. For use of our videos, see their respective licenses (CC BY-NC-ND).
It is not considered commercial use to merely point students to this wiki and encourage them to use it for self-studies.
Slides and presentations
Our slides are not licensed at present. This means that copyright applies without any exceptions. If you are a teacher or represents a school, and want to use our slides in your teaching, you are welcome to contact the authors, for a commercial license.
Anyone may download and read our presentations for personal use or self-studies. It is not allowed to use or spread our slides without permission as a teacher or in any other contexts.
Information about Creative Commons Licenses
If you have questions about the license, please read the license deed linked above. For general information about the various Creative Commons licenses, you may start by reading the Creative Commons Licenses FAQ.
At the core of the various Creative Commons licenses, lies the requirement to correctly attribute the author(s) of the work you have used. Attributions should include Title, Author, Source and License. Creative Commons has a page with best practices for attribution. Creative Commons Australia has a very useful collection of fact-sheets for attribution. Another source of information is the New Media Rights "Best practices for attribution".
